Compounding Medications
The pharmacy profession is based on the scientific tradition of preparing medications for patients. At PENRO Specialty Compounding, we carry on that tradition by compounding custom medicines for our patients. With special training, equipment, technology and chemicals, we are able to individualize dosages and preparations.
The Benefits of Compounding
Individualized Medication Strengths: A commercially prepared medicine may only be available in a limited number of strengths. Your physician may find that a different dosage is best for you. We are able to create a dosage based on your doctor's specific orders. You are not limited to adverse effects from too much medicine or ineffectiveness from too little.
Unique Formulations: Medicines are often only available in capsules or tablets. Infants and patients who experience difficulty swallowing may require a liquid, suppository or other dosage form. We can create whatever dosage forms you might need.
Discontinued Medications: Pharmaceutical manufacturers may stop making medications for which there is only limited demand. If your medicine is available in its chemical form, however, we can compound it for you.
Bad Tasting Medicines: Patients may sometimes refuse to take a particular medicine because of its unpleasant taste. This can be especially difficult when the medicine must be taken for months or years to manage a chronic health problem. We can prepare your medication in flavors people like.
Allergies: Commercially prepared medications may contain preservatives, flavors, binders and dyes. If a person is allergic to one of these ingredients, using that medicine could potentially result in unpleasant or even life-threatening reactions. We can prepare medicines free of substances to which a patient is known to be allergic.
